NFL: Tom Brady retires after an illustrious 22-year career

Chas Post

Tom Brady, a 7-time Super Bowl champion and 3-time MVP, recently announced his retirement following one of the most dominant runs in league history. The former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback finished his career at the top of the passing touchdowns (624) and passing yards (84,250) leaderboard. After being drafted by the Patriots in the 6th round of the 2000 NFL Draft, Brady spent 20 seasons in New England before two years in Tampa Bay. The 44-year-old compiled 15 Pro Bowl appearances and five Super Bowl MVP awards during his illustrious career. Brady has finally opted to step away from the game, despite leading the league in passing touchdowns and yards during his final season. There is still a possibility he decides to return but it appears Brady's seemingly-never ending career is complete.

"I was fortunate to do it for a long time. For 22 years, I did it at the highest level. I had the best teammates, mentors, coaches and friends. I need to make time for other things in my life and it's exciting for me to be able to really enjoy some of those new moments as well. I'm just going to take things as they come. You never say never. I feel very good about my decision. I don't know how I'll feel six months from now. I try to make the best possible decision I can in the moment," Brady said following his retirement announcement per NFL Network. "I think for anyone who loves the sport like I have over the years, it'll always be in my heart as it should be, because I've committed a lot of time and energy and hours to it. I loved playing. I'm looking forward to doing things other than playing. That's as honest as I can be."
