NFL: Adrian Peterson signs with Lions

Adrian Peterson, the 2012 NFL MVP, has signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions worth approximately $2.3 million including incentives. According to the Detroit Free Press, the Washington Redskins released Peterson on Friday, September 4 before the RB agreed to a deal with the Lions. Peterson is heading into his 14th season in the NFL after being drafted 7th overall by Minnesota in 2007. The 220-pound back is obviously past his prime at 35-years-old, but he has still been effective in recent years, running for 898 yards, five touchdowns, and 4.3 yards per carry on 211 rushes. Detroit also hopes Peterson will be able to help mentor the younger running backs, Kerryon Johnson and D'Andre Swift.
