NBA: Pelicans pick SVG as head coach
According to CBS Sports, the New Orleans have hired head coach Stan Van Gundy to a four-year deal. Van Gundy most recently coached the Detroit Pistons in 2018. He made the playoffs just once with Detroit and was subsequently swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the opening round. Although he went just 152-176 with the Pistons, Van Gundy helped mold Dwight Howard and the 2009 Orlando Magic team into title contenders. He spent five years in Orlando, going 259-135, before falling out of favor with Howard and others. The 61-year-old will try to get the Pelicans to the playoffs next season, with a really good young core of former top-10 picks Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, and Jaxson Hayes.
