NBA: 3 Biggest disappointments so far this season
1. Los Angeles Lakers: The Lakers have been the biggest disappointment from title hopefuls to an average .500 team. Los Angeles is currently 17-19, 8th place in the Western Conference. The Lakers have been abysmal this entire season. The team has suffered major injuries to their two best players LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Davis recently suffered an MCL injury in a loss against the Timberwolves, while James has only played 23 games this season because of several injuries. The Lakers offseason addition Russell Westbrook has struggled to fit in with the offense thus far this season. After starting with the easiest schedule in the league, the Lakers have the hardest remaining schedule.
2. Boston Celtics: The Celtics have one of the youngest dual-threat tandems in the league with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. The young duo has been rather disappointing to start the regular season. Although Tatum is averaging 25 points and eight rebounds as the best player. The Celtics are currently 16-19, 10th place in the Eastern Conference. The team hasn’t performed well against the top-tier teams in the league including losses to the Warriors, Suns, and Nets. While Tatum deserves some blame, Brown and the coaching staff deserve it as well. Even though Brown has missed time due to injury, his production on the court is not enough to help this Celtics team grab wins. Brown is averaging 22.8 points and 5.5 rebounds.
3. Portland Trailblazers: The Trailblazers seem to be on the verge of another disappointing season. The team is currently 13-20, 12th place in the Western Conference. It’s safe to say the star-studded backcourt of CJ McCollum and Damion Lillard is not enough to win a championship. Lillard was initially in a shooting slump at the beginning of the season but has slightly improved his 3-point efficiency to 32%. Lillard is averaging 23.9 points and 7.4 assists, while his running mate McCollum is averaging 20.6 points and 4.1 rebounds. This team needs to make a lot of changes either before the trade deadline or in the offseason. Although Lillard loves the city, the organization hasn't put the right pieces around him to be respectable in the West.
