Michigan Wolverines, Purdue Boilermakers

The Michigan Wolverines bounced back from a recent losing skid by taking down the Purdue Boilermakers 86-68 in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals on Friday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Following a 3-game losing streak to finish the regular season, Michigan picked up a much-needed win and advanced to the Big Ten semifinals for the first time since 2021.

Danny Wolf had a team-high 16 points to go with nine rebounds and five assists, while Vlad Goldin totaled 15 points and eight rebounds. Tre Donaldson and Roddy Gayle Jr. finally got back on track, combining for 24 points and seven assists in the win. The Wolverines finished with 38 points in the paint, 25 assists and a 40-34 rebounding advantage.

Michigan resembled the team that was atop the Big Ten standings less than a month ago as the offense found its groove for the first time in several weeks. The Wolverines were desperate to get back in the win column and they did just that by overcoming a slow start and eventually overwhelming the Boilermakers with an up-tempo offense and physical defense.

"We’re going to keep imposing our will in transition if we get the rebound. When we rebound, we’re good in transition," Michigan head coach Dusty May said following the 86-68 win. The Wolverines moved to 23-9 and 14-6 in the Big Ten, and will face the red hot Maryland Terrapins in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals, while Purdue fell to 22-11 with the loss.
