The Michigan Wolverines outlasted the Maryland Terrapins 81-80 in a thrilling Big Ten Tournament semifinals on Saturday at Gainbridge FIeldhouse as Tre Donaldson scored a game-winning layup in the final second to secure a spot in the championship. Michigan trailed 80-79 with five seconds left before Donaldson saved the day with a buzzer-beater.

Donaldson came up with a series of clutch plays down the stretch, culminating in a go-ahead layup to help Michigan stave off Maryland, advancing to the Big Ten title game for the sixth time in school history and first time since 2019. Vlad Goldin led Michigan with 25 points and 10 rebounds, while Danny Wolf posted 21 points and 14 rebounds in the last-second win.

Just moments after hitting a game-tying hook shot, Goldin sank a go-ahead 3-pointer as the Wolverines went up 74-71 with four minutes left. Donaldson came up huge in the final minute, knocking down a 3-point shot to go up 79-76 with 27.9 seconds left and then finishing a game-winning layup with a second remaining to push the Wolverines into the title game.

"That’s all we were trying to do. Just put it in Tre’s hands with a head of steam and a couple options, and he made a play," Michigan head coach Dusty May said following the 81-80 win. The Wolverines are on a quest for the fourth Big Ten Tournament title in school history as they battle the Wisconsin Badgers in the championship game on Sunday afternoon.
