Fever prepare to face Sky as WNBA star rookies renew rivalry
After squaring off in the NCAA Tournament each of the past two seasons, WNBA star rookies Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese are scheduled to renew their rivalry at the professional level as the Indiana Fever prepare to host the Chicago Sky in the 2024 WNBA Commissioner’s Cup opener on Saturday afternoon at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on ESPN!
Clark finished her illustrious career at Iowa as the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer before being selected by Indiana with the first overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft last month and eventually becoming the fastest rookie in league history to record 100 points and 50 assists. The Fever guard leads all rookies with 17.6 points and 6.6 assists per game.
Reese received the Most Outstanding Player award after leading LSU to a national championship win over Iowa in 2023 and went onto get drafted by the Sky with the 7th overall pick in April. The Baltimore product put up 10+ points and 24 offensive rebounds in her first five games, which was the first rookie to post those statistics since 1999.
The former college rivals split a pair of NCAA Tournament matchups in past years and should continue to compete for 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year as the season moves forward. Indiana enters the matchup with a 1-7 record, while Chicago comes in with a 3-3 record. Stay tuned for postgame coverage as both teams hope to pick up a quality win!
