Detroit Pistons host Minnesota Timberwolves in battle of former top picks

Minnesota Timberwolves, Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons host the Minnesota Timberwolves as former top overall draft picks Anthony Edwards and Cade Cunningham square off at Little Caesars Arena on Saturday night! Edwards enters the matchup compiling a team-high 24.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, while Cunningham is posting a career-best 23.6 points 9.5 assists. According to FanDuel, the Timberwolves are 7-point favorites with the over/under set at 217 total points.

Both teams are fighting for playoff positioning so a win could go a long way in build momentum towards the second half of the regular season. Following a trip to the conference finals last year, the Timberwolves stumbled to start this season and are currently in eighth place in the West standings with a 17-16 record. The Pistons are hoping clinch a spot in the postseason for the first time since 2019 but there's still plenty of work to do, sitting in ninth place in the East standings with a 16-18 record right now.

It will be important for the Timberwolves to get off to a quality start and build a sizable lead because they are among the NBA's least productive teams in the fourth quarter, which has caused the offense to become stagnant late in games. Minnesota frontcourt duo Rudy Gobert and Julius Randle must win the interior battle against Detroit tandem Jalen Duren and Tobias Harris. The Pistons will be without guard Jaden Ivey so former Timberwolves guard Malik Beasley will likely be leaned on heavily in his absence.
