CFB: Ball State sends EMU to 0-2
Game Recap:
The Eastern Michigan Eagles (0-2) dropped the second game of the year to Ball State (1-1) on Wednesday, Nov. 11. EMU looked good early, building a 21-13 halftime lead, but the Cardinals were able to take over in the second half and pull out a 38-31 victory. The turning point in the game came in the middle of the third quarter on a 4th & 1 for Ball State. EMU would have gotten the ball back with a 10-point lead but instead the Cardinals converted and proceeded to score a TD.
Caleb Huntley's 13-yard touchdown brought Ball State within three with 5:05 left in the third quarter and Drew Plitt's 33-yard pass put them up early in the fourth quarter. EMU's Preston Hutchinson would tie the game 31-31 with 4:12 remaining, only for Huntley to score the game-winning TD with six seconds on the clock. The Eagles competed down to the wire for the second week in a row but they're 0-2 to start the season. Hutchinson totaled 354 yards and four touchdowns in the loss.
"A lot of hurting guys in the locker room right now. I asked them to fight all game long. I can't fault anybody for not wanting to get it done tonight. I felt though we played hard, we didn't play smart all the time," Eagles head coach Chris Creighton told EMU Athletics following the game. "I put myself in that group that made mistakes but we've got some youth on the team and I think we're going to grow up each and every week. It was a great game."
