CBB: Kansas clips North Carolina in national championship
The Kansas Jayhawks used a dominant second half run to take down the North Carolina Tar Heels 72-69 in the national title game in New Orleans on Monday night. After trailing by 16 points and 40-25 at halftime, Kansas used a 31-10 run to reclaim the lead and hold on to win the first championship since 2008. It marked the largest comeback in national title game history as five players scored in double figures for the Jayhawks. David McCormack led the way with 15 points and 10 rebounds, highlighted by a hook shot in the final minutes to secure the 4th championship in program history.
Ochai Agbaji, the Final Four Most Outstanding Player, finished with 12 points and three rebounds after going for 21 points in the 81-65 win over Villanova on Saturday. Christian Braun scored 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Remy Martin added 14 points off the bench. Armando Bacot totaled 15 points and 15 rebounds but reaggravated a sprained ankle late in the loss. North Carolina still had a shot to tie the game but Caleb Love's 3-point attempt fell short at the buzzer. Bill Self's team is back on top following an impressive 11-game winning streak to end the unforgettable season.
