The Detroit Pistons stormed back from a 13-point deficit in the third quarter to beat the New York Knicks 115-106 as Cade Cunningham compiled a game-high 36 points and eight assists on Thursday night at Little Caesars Arena! New York led 78-65 midway through the third quarter before Cunningham scored 12 straight points to fuel the Pistons’ comeback win in what could be a preview of a first round matchup as the NBA Playoffs approach.
It appeared the Knicks were going to pick up a road win until Cunningham took over to help the Pistons secure a third win over New York this season. The game was tied 85-85 before Detroit put together an impressive finish, outscoring the Knicks 30-21 throughout the fourth quarter. The Pistons continue to be one of the best teams in the league when they shoot over 36% from 3-point range, improving to 28-7 when they reach that mark.
Cunningham put up 36 points and eight assists including a 14-point third period. "This is just Cade being Cade. This is what he has done all year long and why he is an All-NBA player," Detroit head coach J.B. Bickerstaff told the media. Jalen Duren finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds, and Tobias Harris added 17 points in the win. Karl-Anthony Towns totaled 25 points and 10 rebounds to lead New York. The Pistons improved to 44-36 with the win.
