2024 Xenith Prep Classic kicks off MHSAA football campaign
2024 Xenith Prep Kickoff Classic gets underway at Wayne State’s Tom Adams Field this week, featuring four must-see matchups to officially open the high school football campaign! The 19th annual edition of the event is highlighted by top ranked Belleville facing Clarkston on Friday afternoon, followed by Detroit King taking on Cleveland Heights. Southgate Anderson meets Trenton, and Warren De La Salle squares off with Davison on Thursday night.
Check out a preview of the upcoming 2024 Xenith Prep Kickoff Classic headlined by Belleville 2025 5-star quarterback and LSU commit Bryce Underwood and Cleveland Heights 2025 4-star running back and Kentucky commit Marquise Davis! Other notable prospects to watch include Detroit King 2025 3-star edge rusher Xavier Newsom, Warren De La Salle 2025 3-star linebacker Dalton Drogosh and Davison 2025 3-star tight end Payton Kokaly.
Belleville is hoping to clinch a spot in a fourth straight state championship game and could secure a third title with Underwood under center after falling short to Southfield A&T to end last season. Underwood is just 1,637 passing yards away from breaking the all-time state record. The Tigers are also led by 2025 4-star defensive back and Pittsburgh commit Elijah Doston along with 2025 3-star defensive end and Purdue pledge Rashad Jones.
"The Detroit Sports Commission is proud to once again kick off the high school football season in Michigan with an exciting lineup of games in the city of Detroit. This year’s event will feature a tremendous collection of prep football programs, and also the colorful pageantry of school bands and cheerleaders for fans to experience at this signature event," Detroit Sports Commission director Marty Dobek said in a statement per the Detroit Free Press.
