MLB: Padres pick up Mitch Moreland
The San Diego Padres have traded for first baseman (and designated hitter) Mitch Moreland, giving away Hudson Potts and Jeisson Rosario to the Boston Red Sox. Moreland has spent the last four seasons in Boston after spending the first seven years of his career with the Texas Rangers. The 6'3 first baseman hit .252 last year, finishing with 75 hits, 48 runs, and 19 home runs. He has slowed down in recent years, but the San Diego wants to add another bat as they push for a playoff spot heading into September. The Padres are currently 21-15, which is good enough for second place in the NL West and the fourth seed in the NL playoff picture. Boston, who sits at an AL-worst 12-22, is clearly selling this season and are looking to stock up on prospects. San Diego also acquired Austin Nola in a recent trade.
