MLB: Cubs acquire José Martínez
José Martínez has been traded from the Tampa Bay Rays to the Chicago Cubs, in exchange for two players to be named at a later date (or cash considerations). The Cubs were looking for another right handed hitter before Monday's trade deadline and now we know Martínez is the guy David Ross had in mind. The 6'6 right fielder spent his first six seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals before playing in 24 games with Tampa Bay this year. Martínez has hit .239 so far in 2020, compiling 16 hits, 10 RBI, 10 runs, and two home runs. According to Yahoo! Sports, the Rays have also promoted Randy Arozarena following this deal. Both teams are in first place in their respective divisions, as Chicago has a 20-14 record and Tampa Bay sits at 24-11. The trade deadline is 4 PM ET on Monday, August 31.
