NFL: Cam Newton inks deal with Patriots
Cam Newton, who was the 2015 NFL MVP, has signed a one-year deal worth up to $7.5 million with the New England Patriots. The 6’5 quarterback is heading into his 10th season in the NFL after spending his entire career with the Carolina Panthers thus far. In his last full season, Newton threw for 242.5 yards per game, 24 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions on a 67.9% completion rate. The Patriots will have a new full-time starter for the first time since 2000 after Tom Brady signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. New England's quarterbacks room will consist of Newton, Jarrett Stidham, Brian Hoyer, J'Mar Smith, and Brian Lewerke. We fully expect Newton to earn the starting nod and he should help make the Patriots competitive in the AFC East after winning the division 11 straight seasons.
