CBB: Kansas tops final power rankings
1. Kansas (28-3, 17-1): The Jayhawks won the Big 12 and finished the season with victories over #1 Baylor, #14 West Virginia, #20 Colorado, Dayton, and BYU. Kansas was led by Devon Dotson (18.1 points, 4.0 assists per game) and Big 12 Player of the Year Udoka Azubuike. They also won the Maui Invitational, taking down the Flyers, 90-84 in overtime, as the two previously mentioned players combined for 60 points and nine rebounds.
2. Gonzaga (31-2, 15-1): The Bulldogs ran away with the West Coast Conference regular season title and then doubled down in the conference tournament. Gonzaga finished with wins over #11 Oregon, #15 Arizona, #22 Washington, North Carolina, and Texas A&M as they were led by the likes of Joel Ayayi, Corey Kispert (13.9 points, 4.0 rebounds per game), and Killian Tillie. Gonzaga's only losses were to Michigan and #23 BYU.
3. Dayton (29-2, 18-0): The Flyers were one of the most exciting teams to watch all season as Obi Toppin (20.0 points, 7.5 rebounds per game) won the A-10 Player of the Year and National Player of the Year. Their only blemishes were to Kansas in the Maui Invitational and Colorado on a buzzer-beater. Dayton compiled wins over Virginia Tech, Georgia, Saint Mary's, Saint Louis, and VCU en route to winning the A-10 regular season championship.
4. Kentucky (25-6, 15-3): The Wildcats were one of my favorites teams to watch this year because of their offense as Ashton Hagans, Tyrese Maxey (14.0 points, 4.3 rebounds per game), Nick Richards, and SEC Player of the Year Immanuel Quickley took down #1 Michigan State, #3 Louisville, #15 Auburn, #18 Texas Tech, and Tennessee. Kentucky finished the season 9-1 in their last 10 games and looked to be headed for an SEC Tournament title.
5. Villanova (24-7, 13-5): The Wildcats flew kind of under-the-radar towards the back half of the season but they have wins that stack up against anyone else as they defeated #1 Kansas, #8 Seton Hall, #13 Butler, #18 Marquette, and Creighton, while tying for the top spot in the Big East regular season race. Villanova had a balanced team but Saddiq Bey (16.1 points, 4.7 rebounds per game), Collin Gillespie, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, and Jermaine Samuels.
