MLB: Syndergaard shut down for season

Chas Post

New York Mets' starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard is expected to undergo season-ending Tommy John Surgery after doctors determined he had a torn UCL. Syndergaard, who is 27-years-old, is one of the National League's best pitchers. He had a 4.28 ERA last year in 32 starts and was expecting to perform at or above that level again when the 2020 season resumes. New York still has a strong starting rotation with guys like Jacob deGrom, Marcus Stroman, Steven Matz, and Rick Porcello but with no Syndergaard, the Mets might have to rely on Michael Wacha more than they originally wanted to. With that said, it's not out of the realm of possibility that the Mets compete with the Philadelphia Phillies behind the Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals for a playoff spot in the NL East.
