NFL: Hopkins on the move from Houston
The Arizona Cardinals have traded for high level wideout DeAndre Hopkins, giving up running back David Johnson. The Cardinals also got a fourth round draft pick, while the Texans get a second round and fourth round pick for next season. Hopkins is 27-years-old and has been one of the most consistent receivers in the league over the last three or four years. He had 1,165 yards and seven touchdowns last season.
Arizona improves their receiving group for second-year quarterback Kyler Murray, who was very good in his rookie campaign. Hopkins has already showed the ability to succeed with a mobile quarterback and he should fit in perfectly in Arizona’s scheme. Kliff Kingsbury now has another star wide receiver to go with Larry Fitzgerald. Houston, on the other hand, gets 2016 Offensive Player of the Year David Johnson.
Although he has has a few injuries since then, Johnson can still be a good running back and he’ll start in the backfield for the Texans next season, while Will Fuller likely moves to the first option receiver and recently-signed Randall Cobb slides into the slot. Houston also re-signed Bradley Roby, while Arizona is bringing back D.J. Humphries. Both teams should win between 7-10 games next year but I think Arizona won this trade as they came away with the best player.
