CBB: Wisconsin upsets 19th ranked Michigan on road
The Wisconsin Badgers (18-10, 11-6) defeated the #19 Michigan Wolverines (18-10, 9-8) on Thursday, Feb. 27 at the Crisler Center in Ann Arbor. Wisconsin, who came into the game as 6.5-point underdogs, pulled off the 81-74 victory behind D'mitrik Trice's 28 points and four assists on 62.5% shooting from the field. Zavier Simpson had a career-high 32 points, six assists, and five rebounds in the loss. Aleem Ford added 18 points for the Badgers.
Michigan got off to a slow start, something they have made a habit of doing at home, and Wisconsin led 43-33 at the break. The Wolverines made multiple comebacks in the second half, cutting the deficit to less than five points on several occasions but they were never able to get over the hump. The main reason behind that was Trice, who seemed to always hit a big shot right when Michigan was taking over momentum.
Juwan Howard's team trailed 77-74 with less than a minute to go but Simpson and Brandon Johns Jr. missed multiple free throws down the stretch, while Wisconsin was able to covert and put the game away. Michigan has three regular season games remaining versus #23 Ohio State, Nebraska, and #9 Maryland. Wisconsin will face Minnesota, Northwestern, and Indiana to finish the regular season. The Big Ten Tournament begins on Wednesday, March 11.
