NBA: Is Kyle Lowry Leaving Toronto?

Kyle Lowry, the Toronto Raptors‘ All-Star point guard, is set to become a free agent this offseason, and with Toronto being eliminated by the Cleveland Cavaliers for the second season in a row, he’s exploring his options and looking at other possible destinations. According to multiple sources, including Bruce Arthur of the Toronto Star and Scott Polacek of Bleacher Report, Lowry has “zero interest” in re-signing with the Raptors. However, late last night, Lowry tweeted “Don’t believe what you hear,” so it’s hard to tell what the former-Villanova guard has planned.

At season’s end, mumbles surfaced that the Philadelphia 76ers and San Antonio Spurs were considering offering Lowry a deal, as are the Raptors, but now the list of teams is dwindling. Philadelphia is no longer interested because they will draft Markelle Fultz as their point guard of the future, and San Antonio will likely shoot for the stars with Chris Paul or just reload with their original lineup.

Other teams that are potential suitors for Lowry are the Utah Jazz, Dallas Mavericks, New Orleans Pelicans, and Los Angeles Clippers if Paul signs somewhere else. He averaged 22.4 points this past season, but is aging quickly, as he is now 31-years-old. It’s also possible that Lowry simply decides to re-sign with Toronto and stay the course, with backcourt mate DeMar Derozan.
