MLB: Verlander out with elbow injury
Justin Verlander, starting pitcher for the Houston Astros, will miss the remainder of the season after injuring his elbow days after pitching versus the Seattle Mariners on Opening Day. The 6'5 pitcher is in his 16th season in the MLB, after playing his first 13 seasons with the Detroit Tigers. Verlander won his second AL Cy Young award a year ago, just barely beating out former teammate Gerrit Cole, finishing the season 21-6 with a 2.58 ERA, 300 strikeouts, 42 walks, and a 0.80 WHIP. Zack Greinke will now move up to the top spot in Houston's starting rotation, followed by Lance McCullers, Josh James, Framber Valdez, and Blake Taylor. Even without Verlander, the Astros should be able to make the postseason but his absence definitely hurts their chances of winning a second World Series in the last four years.
