NBA: Rondo injured, out 6-8 weeks
Los Angeles Lakers point guard Rajon Rondo reportedly fractured his thumb at practice in Orlando on Sunday, July 12. The 33-year-old will miss approximately 6-8 weeks due to the injury, which puts him back during the first or second round of the playoffs. Rondo played in 48 games this year, averaging 7.1 points, 5.0 assists, and 3.0 rebounds per game. Even though his role was diminished as LeBron James took over more ballhandling duty this season, Rondo adds depth and his absence will hurt the Lakers. It also doesn’t help that LA will already be without Avery Bradley. Quinn Cook will likely get more playing time with Rondo out, but we expect the former Boston Celtics guard to return at some point in the first half of the playoffs, barring an early round exit by the Lakers.
