HSBB: Michigan centers on the rise
Check out some of our best junior men in Michigan.
Rylan Bowens (Cass Tech): Bowens is a bit undersized at 6’5, but he has a nice mid-range game and has been expanding it even further. He also has a quick jump, which allows him to block a lot of shots, and contest even more. His game reminds me of Isaiah Hicks, the North Carolina forward from a few years back. The 6’5 center might have to switch to the three or four at some point but he has a lot of potential. He has an offer from Siena.
Ethan Dunn (East Lansing High School): Dunn is true center at 6’10 and he has high level footwork in the post. He is also able to finish through contact and has developed a number of different ways to score on the inside. The big man also sets hard screens and has become an even better passer. On the defensive side, Dunn uses his length and patience to pick up a lot of blocks and rebounds. He’s the 19th ranked junior-to-be in the state.
Cooper Craggs (Novi Catholic Central): Craggs, the #38 player in the 2022 class, is the lowest ranked player on the list but he is arguably the best outside shooter of the bunch. Although his release is a touch slow, he is a consistent 3-pointer shooter and can stretch the floor at 6’7. He also finishes strong in the paint, has good footwork inside, and can pass out of a double team. On the defense, Craggs anticipates passes really well which leads to steals.
Marquise Davenport (River Rouge High School): Davenport is a 7’0 center and because of his height, he has the chance to be a good player. However, he doesn’t have the athleticism and skill that some of the other players on this list have. Davenport has improved his footwork and free throw shooting, though, and could continue to get even better. He’s the 13th ranked player in Michigan in the class of 2022.
Genesis Kemp (Grand Rapids Catholic Central): Kemp is an athletic big man, who has a lot of potential because of his length and jumping ability. The 6’5 forward/center is a great rebounder and is very difficult to contain on the glass. He has also improved on the offensive end recently and has a chance to keep climbing in the rankings. Right now, he’s the #21 ranked junior-to-be in the state of Michigan.
