MLB: Chris Archer undergoes surgery

Chas Post

Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Chris Archer underwent surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome and will miss a potential 2020 campaign. Archer's 2019 season came to an early end, and 10 months after originally missing time, the team announces he'll undergo season-ending surgery. The right-handed pitcher hasn't been nearly as good in Pittsburgh as he was with the Tampa Bay Rays, finishing last season with a 5.19 ERA in 23 starts. He went 3-9 with 143 strikeouts and 114 hits given up. The Pirates finished last year 69-93 and fifth place in the NL Central, and will likely remain near the bottom of the division and conference if this next year is played. Other pitchers on the Pirates pitching staff are Jameson Taillon, Joe Musgrove, Keone Kela, Steven Brault, and Trevor Williams.
