CFB: SEC quarterback rankings
1. Jamie Newman (Georgia): Newman and Trask seem to be the clear frontrunners but we'll give the Georgia QB a slight edge because of his ability to run, extend plays, and make big plays. He averaged 239.0 passing yards per game, along with 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions last season at Wake Forest. Newman also had a 60.9% completion rate. Even though he's new to the SEC, we think Newman will be the league's premier quarterback.
2. Kyle Trask (Florida): Trask took over the starting spot after Feleipe Franks went down with an injury, and he never looked back. He plays very comfortable, and I think a lot of that is because he's coached by Dan Mullen. Mullen is one of the best quarterback coaches in the country and the two will likely be even more dangerous as they continue to work together. Trask threw for245.1 yards per game, 15 touchdowns, seven picks, and a 66.9% completion rate.
3. Kellen Mond (Texas A&M): Mond has had an up-and-down career at Texas A&M but he'll have one more season to show just how skilled he is. The senior quarterback averaged 222.8 passing yards per game a year ago. He also threw for 20 touchdowns, nine interceptions, and a 61.6% completion rate. We expect those numbers to increase a little bit. Also make sure to watch out for Mond's running ability.
4. Mac Jones (Alabama): Jones was thrown into the fire after Tua Tagovailoa went down with a season-ending injury in a win over Mississippi State. He made some mistakes, especially the two costly interceptions against Auburn, but Jones was pretty good given the circumstances and we expect him to improve even more this coming year. Jones threw for 14 touchdowns and three interceptions, while averaging 136.6 passing yards per game.
5. K.J. Costello (Mississippi State): Costello has been a starter for a few years now, spending time at Stanford under David Shaw, but he decided to transfer to Mississippi State for a chance to play one season with Mike Leach in the SEC. Costello has a huge arm and will have a chance to throw for a ton of yards in Leach's air-raid offense. The former Cardinal QB threw for 207.6 yards per game and a 61.1% completion rate in five games last year.
