NBA: 2020 Mock Draft 1.0

Staff Writer

1. Golden State Warriors: Obi Toppin (Dayton/PF): Toppin earns our top spot following his sophomore season at Dayton, where he averaged 20.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game en route to winning AP Player of the Year. Anthony Edwards is arguably the best player in the class but he doesn't really make sense in Golden State because Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson will be healthy in 2020. I think Toppin would fit in really well alongside Draymond Green.

NBA Comp: Kenyon Martin

2. Cleveland Cavaliers: Anthony Edwards (Georgia/SG): Edwards should fall no lower than the Cavaliers but it's also very possible that the Warriors will take him with the first pick. He might be the most NBA-ready scorer in the class as he put up 19.1 points and 5.2 rebounds per game in his freshman year at Georgia. He is 6'5 and 225 pounds. The Cavaliers might have to move Collin Sexton or Darius Garland to create room in the backcourt, though.

NBA Comp: Caris LeVert

3. Minnesota Timberwolves: James Wiseman (Memphis/C): Wiseman is the real deal and would fit in really well next to Karl-Anthony Towns. He reminds me a lot of Marvin Bagley, but Wiseman is two inches taller (7'1) and already weighs the same (235) at 19-years-old. Even though he didn't play a full season at Memphis, he did impress, going for 19.7 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. I think this would be the right decision for the Timberwolves.

NBA Comp: Marvin Bagley III

4. Atlanta Hawks: LaMelo Ball (United States/PG): Ball is already known worldwide at 18-years-old because of his family, but he could very well go onto be the best of his brothers. It's not everyday that you see a 6'8 point guard but this may become the regular in the NBA someday, and guys like Ball will be behind that movement. He averaged 17.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 6.8 assists in Australia and could slide in alongside Trae Young with Atlanta.

NBA Comp: De'Aaron Fox

5. Detroit Pistons: Cole Anthony (North Carolina/PG): Anthony is one of three or four players that I could see the Pistons going after. Although he was hurt for a good part of his freshman season at North Carolina, he put up 18.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. I could see Detroit hoping he would become their next franchise point guard and he would learn next to Derrick Rose. Other options are Onyeka Okongwu, Isaac Okoro, Vernon Carey, and Theo Maledon.

NBA Comp: Fred VanVleet
