NFL: Running Back Prospects To Watch
Ever since 2015 with Todd Gurley and Melvin Gordon, we have seen a steady influx of running back talent enter the league via the NFL Draft. From guys like Ezekiel Elliott to Leonard Fournette to Saquon Barkley, this new wave of young stars has taken the league by storm. However, the 2019 class is a little weaker at the running back spot than in previous years, but there are still some studs in this class. Here’s three guys I think you need to watch in this class.
1. Josh Jacobs (Alabama, RB): Josh Jacobs is an interesting story. Due to quite frankly how stacked Alabama’s backfield was in 2018, Jacobs wasn’t even the feature back on his team last season but he’s still the consensus No. 1 HB in this draft! This actually works in Jacobs’ favor however, as he has a lot less wear and tear on his body than most other running back prospects in this class. Expect to see him go at some point in the first round.
2. Miles Sanders (Penn State, RB): Being the successor to Saquon Barkley in Happy Valley, Miles Sanders had some huge shoes to fill in 2018. But, Sanders did an admirable job by rushing for 5.8 yards per carry and 1,274 yards. Sanders also ran a much faster 40-yard dash time than Jacobs at a 4.49, and he seems to be the No. 2 HB prospect in the draft to most. Don’t be surprised to see him go on the second day. 247 Sports has him going to the Minnesota Vikings.
3. Bryce Love (Stanford, RB): Unfortunately Bryce Love is another cautionary tale of why student athletes that have a professional future, especially being a first round pick, should not return for their senior season. Love was being compared to Saquon Barkley as the top RB prospect in last year’s draft, but after an ACL tear he’ll probably be a Day 3 pick. I still think Love will succeed in the NFL, especially with the massive chip on his shoulder he’ll have now.
