NFL: Seahawks Slip To The Bears

The Seattle Seahawks have lost their second consecutive game, this time 24-17 to the Chicago Bears. It wasn't a good look for HC Pete Carroll and his team, and it seems like they may be in serious trouble going forward. We became accustomed to the Seahawks reaching the playoffs as they won the NFC championship in both 2013 and 2014, including winning Super Bowl XLVIII. And then they reached the postseason the next two years and won at least a game in each appearance. But then Seattle missed the playoffs last year, and after starting 0-2, they might be headed for a similar season. The Bears defense was able to shut down QB Russell Wilson for most of the night, leading to the a pair of costly turnovers in the fourth quarter.

Chicago began the game with an easy drive that ended with a three-yard shuffle pass from QB Mitchell Trubisky to TE Trey Burton. Trubisky went 6/7 on that drive and had an impressive 17-yard run to get a crucial first down in Seattle territory. The Bears then took a 10-0 lead late in the second quarter, as K Cody Parkey knocked in a 25-yard field goal. Seattle would get on the board before halftime, as K Sebastian Janikowski connected on a 56-yarder as time expired to cut the deficit back to a touchdown. After a scoreless third quarter, the teams each scored two touchdowns in the fourth. DB Prince Amukamara picked off Wilson at midfield and returned it 49 yards for the score. Wilson was strip sacked on the next possession which virtually sealed the win for the Bears.

The Seahawks could obviously still get back into the thick of things, but it's not looking good right now. Wilson has a ton of talent, but he can't be the end all be all. And right now, he's pretty much the only offensive player that opponents have to worry about. After the Monday Night Football matchup, Seattle will face the Dallas Cowboys, Arizona Cardinals, and Los Angeles Rams over the next three weeks. The Seahawks will likely be favored in two of those games, but being able to take down the Rams is a whole different monster. I think the Seahawks will end up being either 1-4 or 2-3 after five games. The Bears go on the road for two of the next three: @ Arizona, Tampa Bay, and @ Miami. Chicago has a real opportunity of going 3-2 and this win over Seattle was a huge victory going forward.
