CFB: Five Important Transfers
1. Shea Patterson (QB, Michigan): Patterson is headed to Ann Arbor as he was one of the most sought-after transfers this offseason. It didn't take him long to announce his decision to join Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines. The former No. 1 recruit totaled 2,259 yards, 17 touchdowns, and nine interceptions before getting hurt for Ole Miss last year. We're still not sure if Patterson will be rule eligible to play immediately, but if so, the Wolverines will open the season as a top-10 team. He has submitted a waiver to try and play this season, but the NCAA has not ruled either way yet.
2. Dru Brown (QB, Oklahoma State): Brown, the transfer from Hawaii, had a very good career for the Rainbow Warriors, but he's moving to the Big 12. And he could end his stint in college with a bang. The Big 12 is known for high-octane offenses and putting points on the board. It's a consensus that really only one team (TCU) in the 10-team conference plays above average defense. So expect Brown to step right in and continue Mason Rudolph's work. Brown threw for 2,785 yards, 18 scores, and eight picks last year. He also has over 5,000 yards for his career.
3. Travon McMillian (RB, Colorado): McMillian was a huge part of Virginia Tech's offense prior to last year, and then he saw a huge drop off in production. Mainly because he didn't see the field as much as before. He has 449 rushes and 16 scores for his career, but only 104 and two touches last year. Because he wasn't getting the ball as much, McMillian has decided to transfer following graduation from the Hokies. He has announced that he will play for Colorado in the fall. It seems like a good fit, and he should be able to add a lot to his 2,152 career rushing yards.
4. K.J. Carta-Samuels (QB, UCLA): Carta-Samuels didn't see much playing time for Washington last season, or for his entire career really, but he may get a better opportunity elsewhere. Since the end of the year, he's made his decision to leave for UCLA public. Carta-Samuels has 310 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception for his career. Now that Josh Rosen has declared for the NFL Draft, UCLA's QB spot is wide open, and head coach Chip Kelly will be considering everybody. With that said, Carta-Samuels will make a push for the starting spot, but it's far from a guarantee.
5. Khalil Oliver (DB, Missouri): Oliver is leaving the Pac-12 for the SEC, transferring from the Oregon Ducks program to the Missouri Tigers. He had a solid season for Oregon, totaling 46 tackles and an interception in 2016. But he may get a better chance for stardom playing for Missouri. Oliver is going to be a senior with one year of eligibility remaining and will add defensive depth to a team that desperately needs it. Missouri went 7-6 last season with a loss in the Texas Bowl to the Texas Longhorns. The Tigers begin the season with a match against Tennessee-Martin.
