CFB: The SEC's Superb Finale
Power Five's Most Powerful Moments - The SEC's Superb Finale:
Alabama and Auburn is like oil in water mixed into a glass for one day of the year. It is an example of how a rivalry should be. A total blood bath filled with rich history and incredible promise to leap teams into national prominence. In 2013, not only did this rivalry have it's best game, but the SEC did in general. The sun was shining almost as bright as these two teams had all season. Alabama was, as usual, ranked No. 1 on the season and Auburn was a team filled with miracles being ranked No. 4. The winner of this game and the conference championship was pretty much guaranteed a trip to the BCS national championship.
Both sides slugged it out up until the fourth quarter when Alabama seemingly had the game in there hands. With under three minutes to go, the Crimson Tide had a chance to go up 31-21, which would make it a two score game. The kick was blocked and Auburn would go on to score on a read option pass with about 30 seconds left. Then in a tie game, Alabama snuck out of bounds with one second, leaving a chance for an incredibly long field goal opportunity. And the rest was history, when Chris Davis returned the field goal all the way into the end zone, giving the Tigers the Iron Bowl win.
The SEC in recent years has cemented itself as the best conference in college football. Some other honorable mentions would be to start with Auburn defeating Georgia on a 4th & 18, tipped touchdown pass just two weeks prior to the Alabama game. The last would be LSU kicking the game winning field goal to win the Game of the Century, against Alabama 9-6, with both teams ranked in the top two. The SEC is and always will be an amazing conference because of thrilling games like these.
