CFB: The ACC's Amazing Day
Power Five's Most Powerful Moments - The ACC's Amazing Day: Coming off a 31-0 win in the Fiesta Bowl, the Clemson Tigers were looking to taste sweet revenge against Alabama. The Tide took down the Tigers in the national championship just a year prior to that game. Dabo Swinney led Clemson to a 12-1 season to that point. He had a hiccup against Pittsburgh, but by the time Alabama went around, it was scared away. 26 million people tuned into hear ESPN's primetime broadcasters, Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit. Raymond-James Stadium was the site of the clash of these two titans.
It was an incredible game that heated up heading into the fourth quarter with an Alabama 24-14 lead. Heisman runner-up Deshaun Watson, led the Tigers to take the lead 28-24 with just 4:38 to go in the contest. They would allow Alabama to get 15 yards on the ensuing drive to make it a 4th & 1 after a wild 3rd & 16. With the game on the line, Alabama got the first down and scored a few plays later. Clemson got the ball back with around two minutes left and scored on a pick pass to receiver Hunter Renfrow, with just one second to go.
Swinney wisely kicked an onside kick, resulting in a Clemson title. Some honorable mentions would start with Georgia Tech's blocked field goal for a score. Georgia Tech blocked the then-undefeated Florida State field goal with no time left and scooped up the ball, running all the way to the end zone for the win. The last honorable mention would be Jameis Winston's touchdown pass to defeat Auburn in the 2013 national championship. The ACC has seemingly always had incredible moments and I am sure they will continue that trend for years to come.
